Finding your way around
Projects and the project menu, the four project tabs, the side menu, light and dark, and the Help menu.
Needlr is organized around projects. One project is one website. The app opens on the project you used last, so you land right where your impact checks are.
Needlr has two kinds of places. Your project is one website and everything measured on it. Your account is the rest: your team, your agents, your plan. This page shows where each one lives.
Think of a school
Each classroom is a project: one website, with its own boards on the wall. The hallway is the side menu. It leads to every classroom, and to the office where the team, the plan and the records are kept.
Projects and the project menu
A project is one website. Needlr always opens on the project you used last. If you have no project yet, it opens the Projects page.
- The project's name at the top of the page is also a menu. Click it.
- The menu lists every project. A green dot means the website and Tag Manager are connected. A yellow dot means something is missing. A ✓ marks the project you're in.
- The demo project, full of sample impact checks, is marked Demo (more).
- All projects opens the list of every project.
- + New project starts a new one. Only Owners and Editors see it (roles).
The four project tabs
Under the project's name are four tabs. Everything about this website is in one of them.
- Impact checks: your board. Every impact check of this project, grouped by what it needs from you: Needs your attention, Running, Shipped to everyone, Coming up, recent verdicts, Drafts, and older ones under Earlier. New ones start from + New impact check (how).
- Timeline: every release and what it did to its KPI, as a list or on a calendar. You only read it here; nothing changes (more).
- Shipped changes: the winners you shipped to everyone through Needlr, and moving them into your site's code (more).
- Settings: your website, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, the no-flicker line, Slack alerts, the project key, and deleting the project (more).
The side menu
The menu on the left is for the whole account. On a phone, open it with the menu button at the top left.
- Projects: all your projects.
- Team: the people in your account, their roles, and invites. Owners and Editors also choose there which emails go out (team, emails).
- Agents: coding agents that create impact checks for you (more).
- Activity: who did what in this account, and when. People, agents and Needlr itself, newest first.
- Plan: your plan, what you've used this month, and your invoices (plans).
- Getting started: your setup checklist, with how many steps are done. It goes away once you're up and running.
Light and dark
Near the bottom of the side menu, the row says Theme: system. Each click moves to the next choice: dark, then light, then back to system. System follows your computer's setting. Needlr remembers your choice on this browser.
Under it are your email address and the button to sign out.
The Help menu
Press Help in the side menu. It has up to four choices:
- Help for this screen: opens the article about the page you're on, beside the page. It shows only on pages that have one.
- Help center: opens every help article in a new tab.
- Replay the tour for this page: shows the page's guided tour again. Where a page has no tour, it says No tour on this page.
- What's an impact check?: a short explanation of what Needlr does.
Common mistakes
- Looking for Settings in the side menu. Settings belong to a project. Open the project, then its Settings tab.
- Making a second project for the same website. One website is one project, and one Tag Manager container can serve only one project.
- Reading the demo as your data. Anything marked Demo is sample data. It never touches a real website.
- Project
- One website, with its impact checks, KPIs and connections.
- Account
- Everything shared by your team: people, agents, activity and the plan.
- Tab
- One of the four sections of a project: Impact checks, Timeline, Shipped changes, Settings.
What the video says
Needlr is organized around projects. One project is one website. The app opens on the project you used last, so you land right where your impact checks are.
The project name at the top is also a menu. Click it to jump to another project, see all projects, or start a new one. The demo project is clearly marked.
Under the name sit four tabs. Impact checks is your live board. Timeline shows every release and what it did to its KPI. Shipped changes holds your winners. Settings holds the connections.
The side menu covers the whole account. Projects, Team for people and roles, Agents for coding agents, Activity for who did what, and Plan for your limits and usage.
At the bottom of the menu, one click cycles the theme: system, dark, light. Needlr remembers your choice on this browser.
Stuck? Open Help. Help for this screen explains the page you are on, the help center has every article, and you can replay the tour. Answers are always one click away.
